What's missing

What's missing from life? What's missing from how we interact with each other? I'm leading a penny drive at school to help patients battling Leukemia and Lymphoma. It's one of my most favorite events at school. The students donate more out of a sense of competition to win the pizza party, rather than a sense of community service to help others...but still. I'm hoping that if we can build a habit of service now, before they understand why it's important, then when they do get it it will already seem like second nature to serve.

The biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis...it is the lack of love and charity; the terrible indifference to one's neighbor.

I am...

Watched part of Tom Shadyac's new documentary "I Am" today. It was good. It came from his desire to explore the difference between a simple life and a busy, stuff-filled life; the difference between "I want more" and "I have enough"; the concept, question, or challenge of where happiness and contentment come from.

Choice revisited

My OLW for the year is CHOICE. When I picked it, I intended it to mean that I was choosing a healthier lifestyle. At I think that's still what I mean. I look at that quote on the wall and I think...yes, my destiny is about the choice I'm making...not just the chance circumstances of my life. So, why...is it still hard for me to make that choice? Maybe I should have picked step...as in one step at a time. It seems that I have an end point in my mind...but I can't get it in my mind that it takes those little steps to realize that choice.

I found this quote today...truth be told, I went looking for the a quote. But I think it still counts:

"Sometimes it isn't what you do, but what you don't do that makes you who you are."

Today, I am feeling like my OLW is more like NON-CHOICE :-).
