I was in Middle School. Remember that time...how it was so painful and how people were so mean to each other? I will never forget Sarah and I walking through the little half-hallway to the gym when 8th grade Becky Trimble grabbed our 6th grade arms to ask if we were going to vote for her for ASB president. I'm sure she was just passing through but in my memory casting a vote for Becky was casting a vote for my own personal safety. So...in 36-ish hours I will be beginning a phase of my career at Housel. Once upon a time I was a student at Housel..now I'm a teacher at Housel. Here's what I remember from my three years as a Colt.
*Mr. Fuerst...so many things...watching him hold his head during a wind gust; adjusting the volume on the movie projector that he'd set up; his phrase "Last...yesterday" to indicate what we'd done the day before; him reading "The Cay" to us and I remember really liking it!
*The big blue apple machine where you could buy a red delicious for a quarter
*An 8th grade girl posting on the bulletin board that her song request for the next dance was dedicated to her ex-boyfriend and she'd requested "I'm Looking For A New Love Baby" by Jody Whatley...shocking!
*The cardinal sin list of words to NOT include in your writing according to Mrs. Caplinger...be, am, is, are, was, were, being, and been. Not only do I remember this but I also use this in my own classroom teaching!
*The Dancing Unit in PE
What do you remember about Middle School?...Here's hoping I don't make the 6th graders cry:-)
